Welcome to Sheridan, Wyoming – The West at its Best – Number one Western Town in America! At the heart of Western “vacation land,” Sheridan is the ideal travel -base situated midway between Yellowstone National Park and South Dakota’s Black Hills. You’re sure to enjoy your stay.

Sheridan is center to and steeped in our country’s western expansion history – once the most prized hunting grounds to Native Americans who hunted and fished this fertile valley of the Little and Big Goose Creeks. The area surrounding Sheridan presents the rich and complex history of the white man trailing through the region en route to the Montana gold fields and the Native American struggle to maintain their
prized hunting lands. The history is captured in the numerous museums, historic sites, forts, and battlefields located in and around the area – including but not limited to Little Big Horn Battlefield, Rosebud Battle site, the Bozeman Trail, and Fort Phil Kearny.

The Big Horn Mountains rise majestically to the west and rolling plains slope gently to the east. Sheridan remains an outdoor paradise with recreational opportunities as abundant as the wildlife. . . moose, elk, deer, antelope, birds of prey, turkey, and pheasant. Just moments away for any outdoor enthusiasts are: fishing, hiking, picnicking, biking, rock climbing, wildlife viewing , hunting, cross-country and downhill skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, and snowmobiling.

For the less active interested in discovering the area’s amazing scenery, a drive through the Big Horn Mountains via the Medicine Wheel Passage (US Highway 14A) or the Cloud Peak Scenic Byway (US Highway 14) will provide breathtaking views of rugged mountains, canyons, towering pine and aspen forests, waterfalls, rivers, creeks, and magnificently colored wildflower fields.

In Sheridan, enjoy a myriad of activities including polo every Sunday - Memorial through Labor Day. Take in a rodeo. Events are scheduled all summer. The second week of July the Sheridan WYO Rodeo, ranked one of the top professional rodeos in North America, is certain to qualify as family fun. See a performance at the WYO Theater. And remember Sheridan is Wyoming’s golf capital with championship golf played at four local courses.

Sheridan’s Historic Main Street District is home to the largest collection of turn-of-the-century buildings in the region and is on the National Register of Historic Places. A thriving arts community provides unique cultural fare while specialty shopping in the historic downtown district abounds – from antiques and cowboy memorabilia to intriguing boutiques and galleries. From hotels, historic inns and bed and breakfasts to dude ranches, mountain cabins and RV parks, and campgrounds, Sheridan offers quality accommodations meeting every individual’s needs. Dining runs the gamut from down-home to gourmet.

Sheridan is where the Old West meets the New West – a pocket of world-class culture wrapped up in hometown hospitality. Here you might find British royalty sharing a cup of coffee with a cowboy-booted okrancher or an author chatting with a world-renowned saddlemaker. Sheridan’s popularity with Hollywood film crews may lend a too-good-to-be-true air to this unassuming, yet lively and diverse community. Don’t be fooled. Spend a day or a week, or a lifetime and you won’t doubt for a minute that you’re experiencing “The West at its Best” – a town as open and welcoming as a Wyoming handshake.

In Sheridan, the opportunities are endless – the difficulty is saying goodbye.
