Just 35 miles south of Jackson, Wyoming along the Idaho border, you’ll find Star Valley, Wyoming. Made up of several quaint communities in the area, including: Alpine, Thayne, and Afton, you will discover the reason many believe this region to be one of our country’s most beautiful treasures. Star Valley is surrounded by three National Forests: the Bridger-Teton National Forest, the Targhee National Forest and the Caribou National Forest. For those who enjoy unlimited outdoor recreation, breathtaking scenery, and an abundance of wildlife, this is the place for you!
While in Afton, don’t miss the opportunity to experience one of western Wyoming’s natural wonders this side of Yellowstone. As one of the only three fluctuating springs in the world, Periodic Springs, is a stop you will want to make. Heading east on Second Avenue as you travel through the town of Afton, five miles up the gravel road, you will arrive at the only cold, freshwater intermittent spring in North America. Take the time to enjoy the 20-minute hike up the well-maintained trail along swift creek to witness the spring’s activity, which is a 15-minute on-off cycle. You’ll be glad you did.
Enjoy viewing wildlife? Then be sure to stop just outside of Alpine at the Wyoming Elk Winter Refuge where nearly 1000 elk spend the winter months.
Known for being the place where cutter racing first began in 1920, Thayne now plays host to the All American Cutter Races every winter.
With the many National Forests and friendly, welcoming communities, Star Valley is sure to exceed your expectations for any vacationing and relocation needs.
